This is our new deck for the week. As we sit and look out we see frigate birds, white tailed tropic birds, brown boobies, Red footed boobies shooting past, dipping, diving, swooping and soaring. They sweep past us so fast it is hard to capture them.

Meet Erika. She was born in 1977 so she is a mature old girl. She comes regularly hoping for a free fish meal.Look at how long her wing is. It gives a good indication of her size.

Their priorities however are with the young or injured babies brought to them. What is unique however about this NFP is that it’s open to the world. Once the birds are rehydrated, fed, looked after and are able to fly away they are free to do so !

Some dedicated and passionate wildlife carers Neil and Tracy look after these birds on a daily basis. They are meticulous in ensuring the bird’s perches are cleaned and they are kept as safe as is possible in the face of H5N1. It’s a daunting task. Let’s hope remoteness might help but it’s not foolproof.
