Coral Coast and Lesueur National Park

I have always wanted to see the wildflowers of Western Australia. With Qantas cancelling our Christmas Island flights on Monday this gave me the perfect window to finally see them.

I chose Lesueur National Park. Lesueur National Park is a botanic oasis. It’s a haven to over 900 plant species. The park is home to 122 species of native bird and 52 reptile species.

I found some dodgy accommodation on the Coral Coast. We hired a car and off we went.

The park is magical in every way. It has a circular drive through on a tarmac road. One way. We paid an automated park entrance and in we went. For the lazy ones you could enjoy the colours from the comfort of the car. We were so excited to see the flowers we stopped frequently and then did two extensive bush walks. Glorious weather, good paths and a joy to remind us of the enormity of nature’s task which it undertakes with stunning results each year.

I really savoured every moment.

And windswept explorer 2 – a rare photo taken by hubby. The day continued at the Pinnacles. Limestone pillars in the desert.

The final walk of the days is Lake Thetis looking at the stromatolites. One of the earliest forms of living fossils dating back 3,370 years.

Walk around the lake. Insta perfect ?

Yeah nah lovely walk but think more midges and mosquitos !
