I watched Wild London, David Attenborough’s latest programme about London and all its wild creatures. Well wild -ish. Pigeons not quite up there for me, but it was interesting nevertheless. It is our last day in the city and I have amassed my own Wild London tribute – in honour of the great man who has given us so much. The sheer delight of seeing a Red Admiral on a lilac on South bank.

A lot of the planting in and around Nine Elms is away from traditional lawns and more into wild flower beds.

Ant’s communal back garden is an absolute delight in mid summer.

A red flowering currant with the palest blue berries. Rather beautiful.

We saw evidence of foxes in the city, peregrine pairs on an Exeter church, but no beavers in spite of a nighttime foray along the Otter River.

Visiting a small shop off Oxford Circus we come across the Charter for the London National Park City. A timely cultural choice, a commitment to a sense of place and a way of life that sustains people and nature in London and beyond.

It has maps of Green areas, (we bought one for C,) Footways in Central London with a network of quiet enjoyable streets for walking. Campaigns which include “Take it up and wear it out ” for wearing out clothing or repurposing them, and London Walking Festivals. Also fellow cities – apparently Adelaide is one…

Tall order ?
One we should all be walking towards.
