A 30 year waiting list.

Well, it’s not Season Tickets for Arsenal – the waiting time is shorter. It is an allotment in Fitzroy Garden Allotment. It began in 1924 and expanded over the years to cover 3.5 acres of south facing land next to Hampstead Heath.

No Plots Available – Waiting List Closed – 169 on the waiting list (as at 24th January 2020)

We had the pleasure of meeting a very spirited friend in her allotment there and enjoyed an exquisite garden produce dinner with Sour Aunt Cocktails to start with.

She lives not far from the allotment and cycles there several times a week to tend to the allotment, water and entertain friends.

How glorious is that ! Radicchio and potatoes from her garden with an anchovy dressing, tomatoes and a burrata with a fennel and olive oil dressing and a houmous of broad beans and tahini.

We sat in the fading but glorious summer sunshine and reminisced about our student days, activism and how our careers have travelled over many continents. We laughed at stories we had long forgotten and bonded over common concerns.

We ended the evening doing some watering in a merry state !
