The Turtles and I…

Both returning briefly to the homeland. They to lay their eggs. Mercifully I have no more eggs to lay, but happily take in family and friends for some precious catch ups.

We are on the north western coast of the island and staying near Pomos. Outside our apartment is a sandy beach with some very interesting marks. The trails of the turtles hauling themselves up the beach. They reappear at intervals down the beach and some rings tell us that the eggs have been laid and they are incubating before the baby turtles hatch and return to the sea. It is wonderful to see this. It’s one of the few beaches which has not been organised with sun loungers and other amenities. Whether purposely or accidentally it has been allowed to stay in its original state and welcome the turtles who clearly are happy about the sandy approach.

To the back of the beach the mountains appear green and lush after the Easter rain. Caper and myrtle bushes line the sides of our path while prickly pear and pine trees take my eye to another level of growth.

The water cool and clear and a joy to swim in. No sharks in this one-but sadly not much else. Fish that is …

The sunsets spectacular from my sister’s deck.
