We are in the old neighbourhood of Hampstead to launch C’s book. Its crisp and bright and I am reminded what it feels like to have cold cheeks.

Nudes at Hampstead Ponds – perhaps a little unseasonal but a beautiful painting of Marie Louise von Motesiczky at Burgh House. Her art and life in Hampstead is exhibited until the 15th December. https://www.burghhouse.org.uk/

When I have a moment I wander the streets with their beautiful houses and gardens and exceptional doors, some of them weighed down by the years.

I look up to a spire and see them everywhere.

We were invited on a tour of the House of Lords and the House of Commons and Westminster Hall, heaving with history, panelling and paintings. We were in awe of their grandeur, age and significance but our friends presence and warmth is what made the visit special to us.

Spending time with the our young men and enjoying winter temperatures as well as making time for family and friends makes the long trip worthwhile. I lie awake and conjure up my words – the good side of jet lag.
