Raja Ampat-Four Kings

Where on earth is this place. I confess to never having heard of it before David Attenborough’s Ocean and some information received by the cruising company.

It’s an area located off the tip of West Papua, an island archipelago with extraordinary marine biodiversity.

The journey

The Four Kings refer to four main islands and it is known as the Amazon of the Ocean.

Humans first visited some 50,000 years ago.

So we embark today on a crossing of the Timor Sea from Darwin in Australia to our first stop in Yamdena Island.

Thanks to my friend Fran Maitland I might be able to deal with some of the vagaries of bad connectivity but it’s only a hope at present not a reality ! We shall see.
