Probably one of my favourite exhibitions and there is a good reason for it.
It is monumental and ambitious, it is astounding, confronting and sometimes hilarious and it’s an homage to people’s creative spirits.
“When I participated in Sculpture by the Sea in Bondi I was overwhelmed by the magnificent views. I wondered if my work was inferior to the beauty of nature’s creation, however after exhibiting several times I began to create work in response to the surrounding nature, creating a new atmosphere where nature and my work harmonise with each other. I believe the Bondi landscape has enhanced my art making”.
Koichi Ogino Japan.

The art work followed a slightly different path this year and inspite of the overcast skies on the first day of our visit, people thronged to it and enjoyed stopping and staring, photographing the artwork, taking a selfie and discussing their feelings about it – and that is what it is all about. Connecting and considering what it means to you.

Drew Macdonald’s SOMA. A life of appliances and untamed nature with us all around.

Andrew Cullen’s Rustle from QLD- A water dragon made of reclaimed timber. Nature’s resilience and our uncertain future.

Yuri Miyashita’s Cradle of Life – inspired by mangrove roots and made with Japanese Kimonos. The wetlands like the kimonos are disappearing. Will both be preserved for the future ?

Ayad Alqaraghollis For Peace.
Ravens symbolise divine care and grace, and the chair where life is lived.

Keizo Ushio’s Oushi Zokei Flight – whales jumping. Keizo has been exhibiting here since 1999 and is often seen wandering amongst the art work. This is a single piece of polished granite on Japanese Sandstone.

R M Ron Gomboc’s Arch to build a dream on.
Using the arch as a symbol of unity and spiritual connection. Beautiful colours of patinated copper.

Jina Lee – saying wherever you may be, knowing your roots and trusting oneself, everything will be ok.
My favourite of all is Lily !

Dawn Conn’s Lily
An open water swimmer who embraces possibility and empowerment and the freedom to dive in. As my son said – “This reminds me of you mum and Auntie Anna as you dive into the sea”.
