Its that time of year again. The annual Kerbside Collection of Brisbane neighbourhoods. The Municipality generously sends out a Collection Team to take away all your unwanted items. People have a big clear out and it all goes on the kerbside a few days before the allotted collection day.
And now the fun begins. Leisurely walks browsing the piles. Scavengers looking for loot. DIY enthusiasts finding the missing piece. Ginny, my doggie companion this week having a sniff- athon. In the past I have found many treasures and I am always on the lookout for what might come up. I imagine the stories which might be attached to the article thrown out. A rather shocking moment today was turning over a carefully wrapped frame with World’s Best Mum and a photo attached. I cannot even bring myself to share it. It felt so raw. Who would throw that out ? An irate mum? An ungrateful child?
Past Glory and stories shared on this bench.

A Greek house ? putting out all these beautiful cups and saucers. I saved them, washed them and put them all out on my dining room table. Some with admirable provenance. The State Library collects them. I will faithfully look to find them better homes than landfill. Message me if any grab your fancy.

Dreaming of lying on this in my beach home when I return to Famagusta on the south coast of the Cyprus – a wave chair – though the dream may remain just that.

I could not resist this one- as I wait for another era.

They may have been chucked out but those stories and memories live on in lives behind these beautiful green queenslanders and many more besides.
