It is 7 years to this day that C and I became Aussie citizens. However it was not until yesterday at Bunnings in Newstead that I received the official baptism of the Sausage Sizzle. Not just eating them but being part of an amazing team of volunteers at Reading Radio who had the hot and enviable task of manning the BBQ to satisfy Aussies incredible appetite for a sausage in white bread. It’s Aussie. It’s Sacred. It’s everyone’s favourite.

I think we got through 36 large white loaves of sliced bread, hundreds of sausages and there were long lines at lunchtime. With my other mates it was a well oiled and extremely greasy machine (excuse pun) which worked well and hopefully will have earned Reading Radio some dollars in their account.

I came home smelling of Sausages and fried onions but was happy and satisfied that we had practically fulfilled every order quickly and with a smile. With or without onions, condiments or not, gluten free requests for sausage only, coeliac requests ditto but in paper towel that had not touched bread. Some double orders, two sausages in one piece of bread. Repeat orders for some very happy customers. Cold ones for dogs who are pampered and have replaced children in some families. Its a whole new ball game of sizzling sausages but we have passed the test collectively as a bunch of lawyers, accountants, teachers, performers, train drivers, house husbands and housewives and many more. I would say I love every minute of this Can Do population. No seven year itches forecast.
