New family joins the Menagerie.

It’s still pouring with rain – a very wet Queensland summer so far, but the garden is teeming with life and weeds. A new bird family has made several appearances now and I am beginning to recognise and expect them. They are often hidden in the frangipani tree but just the other day I heard the baby tweeting and it is a very sweet song. This is the Spangled Drongo. Australia’s only drongo.

Listen to it here – they have forked tails and often an iridescent plumage. I first came across them in India but this is Australia’s drongo. We may need to find a name for it … suggestions in the comments box. https://birdlife.org.au/bird-profiles/spangled-drongo/

The Spangled Drongo of Red Hill

Uncle Russ may be gone but the cycle of life continues and he would have been happy to see his avos forming and dangling over our garden.

There is a sweet light in the sky and we are relishing the coolness of evenings and excellent tennis which has just started at the Australian Open.
