Children need protection.

On the 31st of October 2023 children in Australia and many countries around the world will be setting out for a night of trick or treating for Halloween. A night traditionally given to ghouls and ghosts.

On the same night ghouls – we can only call them that – will make ghosts of many children. They will lose their lives needlessly, blamelessly.

This day marks the end of summer and the beginning of a dark, cold winter, not only in reality but in all our souls. Has the world lost all reason, humanity and care? The UN has called for a cease fire, but not even the wording of that could be agreed by all. What an indictment on our world.

    Thanks Marina. It is indeed a grim time for so many particularly children around the world. I’ve just read a memoir by Sherine Tadros about her work as a journalist reporting all the fighting in place such as is happening now. She has moved to the UN and still wonders if she’s and the UN are making a difference.

      Hi Fran,
      We have institutions like the UN and other bodies because of what has happened in our history. And yet they seem powerless at these crucial times to avert the worst possible horrors. Instead of fighting for amendments to satisfy them, Greece, Cyprus and Australia all abstained from the vote. So disappointing.
