Driving and walking in Rwanda left me with no doubt that Rwandans are hardworking people, but also kind and caring and with a good sense of humour. I would say the women do a large part of the work -they work the fields, manage the home and so many have a baby on their back while tilling and planting. Men carry huge loads on bikes which seem to be the best form of transport outside of Kigali. In Kigali motorcycles took over the loads.

Fertile volcanic soil enables many small holdings planted with potatoes, beans and bananas. Here they are having a small potato harvest. An elderly woman returns from the field with firewood on her head and a hoe across her shoulders.

When not in the fields some are very dapper like this gentleman and his quite extraordinary shoes !
