Announcing the joyous arrival of Junior

For those of you who have been following this blog for a while you may know that I have a pair of visiting kookaburras Dennis and Doreen who have been coming to the deck for several years. Last year they lost a baby in the storms of last February. Today they introduced their new baby to us and it was such a sweet surprise. It flew into the house and landed on the bar stool. Here it is:

It is a fluffy little thing, its feathers are pale and it is just learning how to fly. It is very hungry but it is for Doreen to feed it and not me. She managed it very well today and when we had safely negotiated his exit off the bar stool he sat in the lilly pilly and waited for some more food. His Mum obliged. I could not be happier than seeing this happy addition to the family.

So everyone – what shall we call this little one ? No idea of the sex. A gender fluid name perhaps? Suggestions in comments below or on FB.

  2. Darel apparently means ‘blue sky’ in one of the indigenous languages, so I’d go with that!

    From a website:
What does the name Darel mean?
In the Anglo Saxon origin, Darel means “Tenderly beloved; Little darling”.
In the Australian Aboriginal origin, Darel means “Blue sky”.
In the English origin, Darel means “Dearly loved; Open”.
