Unroll a scroll

Scrolls were an early form of the written word. Papermakers of Queensland were on a roll to create their own scroll – they fulfilled the brief creatively and magnificently. Whether on a vertical or a horizontal setting. Joanna Faber’s handscrolls of “Tidal Calligraphy” with handmade bleached banana fibre paper and digitally printed seaweed images.

Karen Payten’s “Woven” Eco Printed mixed papers, paper twine, paper thread and raffia.

Joanne Taylor’s “Petrichor” paper pulp, glue, iron oxide, cotton string and wood. The smell of rain touching dry earth.

A detail look at Petrichor.

Wendy Sonnenberg’s “Out of Chaos”. handmade paper, eco dyed paper and fabric threads, netting woven cane, dyed tea bags, words, handmade cords weaver reels, and a timber base.

And finally Peter Whitehouse’s “Doomscrolling” masterpiece. I have included a blog entry from Peter here for anyone who is interested to see how he created this from one sheet of paper. It is the story of the pandemic unfolding – or should I say folding – with abstract origami tessellations made using folds only ( NO CUTS) from red natural Kraft paper which originally measured 2.5 metres. http://www.wonko.info/365origami/?p=11639

Quite an achievement.

Its a truly magnificent exhibition and there was so much more there worthy of mention. For those who can, go along and see it. On until the 7th.
