We were picked up in a small four seater helicopter with no doors for good views ! We rose above the small island we were on and onto the mainland over huge expanses of rocky crags, river beds and creeks, eucalypt forests and grasslands going inland on the Mitchell River. The area is green and vibrant after the rains. Our destination the Falls which are thundering at the moment. There are four falls one after another down a very deep gorge. We arrive at the top and walk round to some wonderful view points. The falls are significant for the Wunambal people and home to the Wunggurr, the powerful creator snake.

It was also referred to as the rainbow serpent which we saw reflected in the water as it thundered down.

We swam in the top pools which were slippy and muddy from the silt being carried by the water but very refreshing.

Back over the gorges and the open plains to the sea with its islands dotted around the rugged coastline.
