Will he or wont he let us start our holiday ? That is the question for today.

We arrived in Broome in the north west corner of this vast country. While we wait to hear which direction the cyclone will take, we take in this beautiful town. Its commonplace to see Camels along the road. Families gathering to watch the footy, barefoot children playing on the astro turf with minimal parent intervention. Everyone having a good time at the local brewery called Spinifex, the Spini for short. The chips were delicious and our meal totally unhealthy but hey we are on holiday.
This is a town of pearler luggers which was established around about 1880s. Japanese, Chinese, Malays and Aboriginals all took part in this thriving pearling industry – until a very little thing destroyed the industry – yes the ubiquitous plastic button. Pearls not required anymore, so they turned their cultivation for jewellery. Even the Queen visited in 1963. Its been in a few cyclones in the past – will Errol hit us too ?

We stroll down to the famous Cable Beach and spend some blissful hours strolling along a magnificent beach discovering yet another treasure the ocean has thrown our way. In the distance our cruise boat – C on the shore wondering if swimming out to it will be the only way…

The whole area is full of the fragrance of frangipani blossom which hang from the branches. It takes me back to Kenya and our own frangipanis in Kirima House.
