A strangely comforting place of open spaces, farmed fields, unpopulated and unchanging. I walk down the same paths of the village we lived in and nothing has moved. Hardly anything new has been built, though there are some extensions to the local school. No high rises, no trash, no major road changes. Clipped hedges, tidy and well tended gardens and beautiful vistas of the snow capped mountains. Some familiar faces and of course many friends from another time when the children were growing and we regularly walked in the vineyards and beyond.

Lac Leman stretches far and in the corner a Jet D’eau just visible.

I popped into a friend’s house as I was walking down her road. Not something done here really. She was surprised to see me but so welcoming and she gifted me a swizz hat which I will wear with joy.

Everywhere I go, now a complete unknown, I pass people on the street, they look up and greet me “Bonjour Madame”, an acknowledgment of one human to another, an enduring quality of Swiss life which fills me with joy and cherished memories.
