Earth hours

At the weekend we took two little boys to see the Australian Geographic Exhibition. As we entered the hall we saw this poem. The boys read the whole of it aloud to us. They are half Aboriginal and are slowly but surely recognising the depth of their roots and their familial ties. I am a little brown. C is white as, and valued for his nous. We have a good time together. We are reminded of the effort and energy needed to keep them engaged and what is “in” – and they are able to enjoy holiday outings with us which their family cannot afford.

We watched the big screens reveal the beauties of this vast continent. We loved their excitement and ours too as huge skies were presented, rivers and streams from the air, rocky escarpments and birds and animals -with colours shapes and faces which left us wanting more.

It is one of the most biologically diverse countries on the planet. Home to more than one million species of plants and animals. Where bird song began. To think that 80% of mammals found in Oz are not found anywhere else on this earth. Preserving it is key to its future.

The 25th of March 2023 celebrates Earth Hour. Now turn off your lights and mark your moment for Earth. Lets make these hours infinitely long.
